It’s the matchup many college hoops fans have been waiting for: Paige Bueckers and UConn vs. JuJu Watkins and USC.
Bueckers is the projected No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft, and she’s only boosting her stock with her play this season. She’s averaging 20.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.1 steals per game on 58.4 percent shooting and 44.2 percent from deep.
The Huskies are 10-1 with their only loss to No. 8 Notre Dame. UConn fell to No. 4 in the rankings after that loss.
Meanwhile, USC has earned the No. 7 ranking while riding a six-game win streak. Watkins has naturally been a major reason for the success. The sophomore guard is averaging 24.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game on 45.4 percent shooting from the field.
Watkins is almost certainly a top pick in a future WNBA draft. Until then, she’ll be leading college hoops. She gets her second chance at taking down Bueckers after the Trojans fell short in last year’s matchup.
Bueckers scored 28 in last year’s 80-73 victory, while Watkins scored 29.
