Two of the best coaches in college basketball face off Sunday when UConn and St. John’s battle at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Dan Hurley, who has led the Huskies to back-to-back national championship wins, takes on Rick Pitino and the Red Storm, a surprise power in the Big East this season.

No. 9 St. John’s (23-4) defeated UConn 68-62 in their last outing on Feb. 7, as Red Storm leading scorer RJ Luis Jr. scored 21 points on 10 of 21 shooting in the game.

Things haven’t been easy for the Huskies in recent matchups, as Hurley’s squad was upset by Seton Hall 69-68 in overtime on Saturday before securing a hard-fought comeback win over Villanova on Tuesday. UConn also dropped three games in January, losing to Villanova, Creighton and Xavier.

St. John’s leads the Big East standings with a 14-2 conference record heading into the weekend, with Creighton and Marquette tied at 11-4. UConn trails shortly behind at 10-5, and will look to gain a game in the standings with a win over the Red Storm on Sunday.
