BATON ROUGE — Murray State gave LSU women’s basketball a bit of a scare last time.
For the firs time this season, the Tigers trailed at halftime and going into the fourth quarter. But Kim Mulkey got her defense to honker down in the second half, especially in the fourth, as No. 7 LSU avoided early-season disaster and beat the Racers, 74-60.
After giving up 46 points in the first half, the most so far this season — including a 32-points second period — LSU bounced back and allowed 14 points in the third and fourth quarters.
LSU will want to carry that second-half defensive effort into its next game against Troy inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Monday night. The Trojans average 72 points per game and scored 71 at Alabama back on Nov. 10.
Opponents have been able to score almost at will against Troy and that bodes well for LSU, who with Flau’jae Johnson, Aneesah Morrow and Mikaylah Williams can score in droves.
LSU women’s basketball will host Troy Monday and can be on SEC Network+.
