NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Several people gathered at the Westfield Shopping Center on Saturday for the 12th annual Christmas in the Neighborhood, featuring holiday-themed activities such as s’more roasting, cookie decorating, and ornament making and more.
The event, organized by the shopping center’s business association, also included appearances by Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and live reindeer.
Events like this are helping bring the community together.
“It wasn’t too crowded,” said attendee Jenna Ingison. “You can see that there are a lot of people out here enjoying it. I thought it was cool that we could go into the stores.”
Jenna and her mom were enjoying the fun-filled day with family and friends.
“I think it’s a great activity for the kids out here and keeps the spirit of Christmas alive,” said attendee Dani Ingison. “It’s all free, so everyone feels included and involved.”
Other organizations, such as The Rock Church and The Salvation Army, also participated to help make this year’s event a success.
“They have a kettle here, and hopefully, people are putting things in,” said Bible Supplies Partner Nancy Fabik. “Another thing we do is Scott Orr over at Orr’s Cleaners has been generous enough—if you bring in slightly used coats, he’ll clean them, and we take them to the Salvation Army to give to those in need.”
Although this event is over, Orr’s Cleaners will continue to clean coats that are donated to the Salvation Army.
