Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina won against Chinese qualifier Yafan Wang 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the second round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on Tuesday.
Svitolina, ranked No 30, will face the winner of the match between Italian lucky loser Lucia Bronzetti and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 14 seed and former champion, next at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
This was the Ukrainian’s 24th win of the year on the tour.
