Week 8 around the NFL does not seem to be an overly impressive schedule of games on its face. The league has only three games this week between teams with winning records, two of which will put division leads on the line, but otherwise there are a number of teams holding massive point spreads coming into the weekend.
In fact, a whopping six games have point spreads of a touchdown or more as of Friday afternoon, a truly impressive number. The biggest of those favorites are the Detroit Lions, who are 11.5-point favorites at home against the 1-5 Tennessee Titans. The Denver Broncos are also double-digit favorites against a bad Carolina Panthers squad, while the Chiefs, Chargers, Ravens, and Jets also are 7-point or more favorites in their games.
Which of these teams will actually be able to cover those big spreads? We will find out on Sunday, but APC’s contributors are here to provide our predictions. The only teams among this group of six that a majority of our writers are expecting to cover are the Chiefs (over the Raiders on the road), Jets (on the road against the Patriots), and the Ravens (also on the road against Cleveland).
Otherwise, our writers are either split or skewing in favor of the big underdogs. Even for a bad Titans team, 11.5 points is a lot, and three of four writers expect them to cover, even as everyone picks the Lions to win straight up.
Check out our picks for all of these games plus Packers-Jaguars in our picks below!
