The last opportunity for momentum before the US Open continues this week, with the Winston-Salem Open round of 16 taking place. There are some brilliant match ups on Wednesday, and we’ve drilled into the ones that we think are the best bets below.
Based on the latest tennis odds, these are the wagers we recommend today:
Is there a more fearsome sight than Chris Eubanks getting some momentum on a fast court, with an American crowd behind him? Don’t get us wrong – Eubanks hasn’t exactly been Mr. Consistent over the past few years. There’s a reason he’s ranked No. 120 in the world and needed a wildcard just to play at the Winston-Salem Open.
However, he’s gone on hot streaks before. Think Wimbledon 2023 (made the quarter-finals, defeating Cam Norrie and Stefanos Tsitsipas) or Mallorca 2023 (won the tournament), or even the Miami Masters earlier that year (went through qualifying to the quarter-finals). When Eubanks is hitting the ball sweetly, he’s a tough beat.
Safiullin, on the other hand, has had a rough season. He’s fallen outside the world’s top 50, and has a losing record in 2024. Yes, he won a Challenger recently, but if anything, we expect that will work against him given the tight turnaround. Back Eubanks in this one.
Former world No. 12 Borna Coric is also having a challenging year, falling to No. 87 in the rankings after a 9-15 record coming into Winston-Salem. However, back-to-back wins this week have sparked a bit of momentum, and we think he’ll do well against Rinky Hijikata.
Hijikata is coming off an epic against Arthur Cazaux, which he won in a deciding set tiebreak. We think he’ll be gassed from that, and won’t be able to withstand Coric’s sweet hitting on Wednesday.
