It’s hard to earn a chance to play college sports. It’s even harder to do so in two sports.

But that’s what Waynesboro’s Alex Torbica has done, as the senior Indians star has committed to play both football and basketball at Albright College.
“I will be committing to Albright College !! I want to thank the Lord who’s given me an opportunity to play both football and basketball at the next level and all the coaches who have helped me along the way. @CoachV_3K @FootballWashs @RymirVaughn @paD3hoops @Pa_Preps @AlbrightBB,” Torbica tweeted.
Torbica was swayed by the staff, choosing Albright over Capital University.
“I decided on Albright because they treated me like family as soon I stepped on campus,” Torbica told PennLive. “And I loved the environment within the teams there and how the everyday life was.”
One of the best rebounders in the Mid-Penn, the 6-foot-7 Torbica was initially recruited as just a basketball player. But as a standout kicker and punter for the Indians, Albright’s staff was able to help him secure a spot on the football team as well.
“I plan on focusing on one sport at a time and one day at a time and just doing everything in my power to focus on being a great student-athlete,” Torbica said. “Especially with the seasons over running with each other, concentrating will be key.”
With recruitment now over, Torbica has reflected on the process, thanking his mom, coaches like his basketball coach Tom Hoffman, AAU coach Jay Hughes and kicking coach Vincent Ondecko.
“The process has been a struggle,” Torbica said. “Ever since a little kid I have dreamed of playing sports at the next level. The reward was a sigh of relief to me and my mother knowing I have a great career ahead of me.”
