Apple has released watchOS 11, bringing with it improvements to the health and fitness features available on Apple Watch, as well as Tap to Cash to users in the United States, added information to users who store event tickets in Apple Wallet, such as when the venue opens and when the show starts, and updates to watch faces.
With watchOS 11, the Smart Stack watch face adds new widgets including Shazam, Photos, Distance, and more, as well as gaining the ability to suggest widgets based on time, date, location and daily routines. New interactive widgets allow users to interact with an app directly from the Smart Stack, and Live Activities is also now available on Apple Watch within the Smart Stack.
The Photos watch face can now help a user select their best photo options by quickly analysing thousands of photos using machine learning and making recommendations based on aesthetics, composition, and even facial expressions. Then, a custom algorithm finds the best composition by optimising for the subject’s position within the frame and creating a sense of depth.
watchOS adds the Translate app to Apple Watch, so users can access translation for one of 20 supported languages directly on their wrist. Additionally, the double tap gesture can now be used to scroll through any app — like Messages, Calendar, or Weather — making it easier to interact with Apple Watch with one hand.
Health and fitness is the main focus of watchOS 11. A new Vitals app provides users with insights into their health metrics, including sleep data analysis, allowing for better-informed decisions regarding their well-being. Notably, pregnant users will received additional support through features reflecting changes in their physical and mental health.
A highlight of watchOS 11 is the introduction of the Training Load feature, offering users a deeper understanding of how their workout intensity affects their body over time. This tool will help users make informed decisions about their training regimen. Moreover, with watchOS 11, Activity rings are more flexible, with users able to customize their goals and even pause their rings without affecting their streaks.
watchOS 11 is available for Apple Watch Series 6 or later paired with iPhone Xs or later, running iOS 18, which is also now available.
