Following their massive trade to land Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat on Wednesday night, the Golden State Warriors could look to make even more noise after the Feb. 6 trade deadline.

In fact, recent reports indicate that the franchise may be a great fit for an established, gritty guard and former NBA champion from the New Orleans Pelicans.

“Bruce Brown landed in New Orleans as part of the return in the Brandon Ingram trade with Toronto,” Bleacher Report’s Joe Tansey wrote Thursday.

“Brown is on a $23 million contract for this season, so his list of potential suitors after a buyout is smaller than other candidates.”

“New Orleans could choose to keep Brown as part of its rebuilding phase around Zion Williamson, but the Pelicans have to make sure he fits within the rotation.”

“If the Pels choose the buyout route with Brown, Golden State could be a fascinating option as an upgrade from some of the young talent on the Warriors roster.”

As an important former member of the 2023 NBA champion Denver Nuggets, Brown gained a reputation as one of the league’s most impactful two-way threats, which led the 6-foot-4 guard to sign in the summer of 2023 with the Indiana Pacers on a two-year, $45 million contract.

After making his way to the Toronto Raptors in 2023-24 and appearing in 18 games for the franchise this season, Brown was dealt at the deadline to the Pelicans where he’s become one of the league’s top buyout candidates.

Brown contributed 8.4 points and 3.8 rebounds with Toronto, but a potential acquisition by Golden State could unlock parts of his game that haven’t been seen since his title victory in 2023.

With regard to Jimmy Butler, Brown would join the Warriors as another active and skilled perimeter defender that could also knock down three-pointers at a fairly consistent rate. Brown is especially deadly from the corners, a spot on the floor where he’s connected on 45.0% of his looks in 2024-25.

If Brown were to make his way to the Warriors, he’d likely fit in well under head coach Steve Kerr and alongside Butler and four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry as a backcourt partner in certain rotations.
