The content tool creates a homepage for each shopper. Walmart expects to roll it out fully in the U.S. by the end of 2025. Walmart also plans to use the tool in Canada and Mexico.
Walmart is also experimenting with augmented reality called Retina. The platform creates “tens of thousands” of 3D assets. Walmart said the goal of its test with AR is to incorporate new shopping experiences into social platforms.
In one example, a feature called View in Your Home uses AR to show shoppers 3D images of products. Walmart said it is rolling out this experience to Canada, Chile, and Mexico.
In another example, Walmart is alpha testing its API (application programming interface) program with mobile developer Unity. The partnership allows developers to insert commerce-enabled APIs into games and apps. Walmart inked the deal with Unity in January.
Walmart will also unveil a new experience with avatar-based social platform Zepeto later this year. Customers will be able to buy items from Walmart’s private-label brand, No Boundaries, for virtual avatars, as well as real products from the line.
