CHEBOYGAN – We saw some great coaching jobs in the Cheboygan area this past fall.
With 2024 closing, be sure to cast your vote for who did the best coaching job in the area over the last few months. The poll opens on Thursday morning and closes at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Here’s the nominees:
Bill Nesbitt, Cheboygan Football – It wasn’t a winning season for the first-year coach, but Nesbitt did a strong job of guiding the Chiefs to a four-win campaign after capturing only one victory in 2023. Perhaps the most thrilling moment of Nesbitt’s opening fall in Cheboygan was when the Chiefs overcame a 23-0 halftime deficit and topped Elk Rapids at home.
Travis Meyer, Inland Lakes Football – What an excellent campaign it was from Meyer, who guided the Bulldogs to an undefeated regular season, a fourth consecutive Ski Valley 8-Player Conference crown, a regional championship repeat, and a second consecutive state semifinal appearance.
Nicole Moore, Inland Lakes Volleyball – It was another consistent campaign for Moore, who helped lead the Bulldogs to a sixth consecutive district championship. With their only Ski Valley loss coming to champion Onaway, Moore’s Bulldogs finished 8-1 in league play.
Steve Watson, Onaway Volleyball – Though he was hoping for a much deeper postseason run, Watson’s season was a good one as he guided the Cardinals to an unbeaten Ski Valley title winning campaign. In addition, the Cardinals won 33 games.
