The NBA is reopening an investigation into a 2021 incident involving Los Angeles Lakers center Jaxson Hayes, according to a report by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
Hayes helped Moeller High School to a state championship in 2018. He played one season at Texas before becoming the eighth overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft.
TMZ posted video of an altercation between him and his former girlfriend. Security camera footage with a 2021 timestamp shows Hayes, then with the New Orleans Pelicans, arguing with her.
“As a result of the media report and video posted this morning, we are reopening our investigation,” NBA spokesperson Mike Bass said in a statement, per McMenamin.
Hayes is in his sixth NBA season, second with the Lakers, after playing four seasons for the Pelicans.
