Jay Vine is back home in Australia currently, getting ready for the opening of his 2025 season at the Tour Down Under, starting on January 21st. Whilst enjoying himself pitch side at an Aussie cricket match though, Vine narrowly avoided what could have been a real disaster.
Taking in a T20 Big Bash game between the Adelaide Strikers and the Sydney Sixers, Vine was in the midst of being interviewed pitch side when Strikers’ Alex Ross lasered a shot right in the UAE Team Emirates – XRG rider’s direction. Given the weight of a cricket ball, injury was a very realistic possibility for Vine if he’d been hit. Thankfully though, Sixers fielder Lachlan Shaw came flying across to spectacularly stop Ross’ shot going for a 6 and saving Vine from injury in the process! In the end, Vine was witness to an exciting game in the BBL too as the Sixers eventually secured a three wicket victory on the penultimate ball of their 20 overs.
