Coco Gauff received a ringing endorsement from tennis icon Venus Williams.
The 20-year-old is flying the flag for America as their number one player and is following in the footsteps of the seven-time Grand Slam champion and her sister Serena Williams, who has 23 of her own.
She already has a Grand Slam title to her name and will go in search of her third title in 2024 at the WTA Finals in November.
Coco Gauff has long talked about the influence Venus and Serena had on her and she is on the way to building a great legacy in tennis as the sibling duo did before her.
Of late Venus Williams has made multiple media appearances as she promoted her new book titled ‘Strive: 8 Steps to Find Your Awesome’.
During an appearance on the Tamron Hall Show in America, the 44-year-old was asked about Gauff, who was in the crowd for one of her US Open matches as a child.
The former World number one is thrilled to see Gauff thriving and wishes the 2023 US Open winner all the best moving froward.
“It’s so exciting to see her explode,” Williams said. “She’s fantastic and, of course, I hope she wins every match.”
Williams and Gauff played two matches against one another on the WTA Tour.
Gauff announced herself on the big stage when she defeated Venus 6-4, 6-4 at Wimbledon in 2019, when she was just 15 years of age.
The pair played again the following year, this time at the Australian Open in the opening round. Gauff claimed a first set tiebreak before sealing a 7-6(5), 6-3 win.
Gauff and Williams have also played alongside each other. They entered the women’s doubles at the 2021 French Open.
They took on Zheng Saisai and Ellen Perez, and won the first set, before succumbing to a 7-6, 4-6, 3-6 loss.
