MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla.—Sophomores Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) and Evan Eichenlaub (Bethlehem, Pa.) and first-year Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) all ended the final round under par to help the 16th-ranked Babson College men’s golf team finish 16th at the Golfweek October Classic on Tuesday at Raven Golf Club.
The Beavers posted a final round score of 2-under 282 to conclude the 54-hole event with a score of 16-over 868. No. 6 Washington & Lee shot 30-under to finish first, while No. 21 Sewanee came in second at 23-under. No. 13 LeTourneau (6-under), No. 1 Methodist (5-under), No. 10 Lynchburg (5-under) and No. 5 Oglethorpe (3-under) all finished the tournament under par.
Eichenlaub registered the team’s low round of the day with a 3-under 68 that included four birdies and one bogey. Starting on the back nine, he birdied Nos. 13 and 15 and made a two on the par-3 fourth hole before bouncing back from a bogey on No. 6 with a birdie on his final hole of the tournament, the par-4 ninth.
Vantipalli overcame and early double-bogey with a stretch of five birdies in nine holes beginning on No. 17 on the way to finishing under par for the second day in a row with a 2-under 69. Berry also overcame an early double and made five birdies in the span of nine holes to shot post a career-best round of 2-under 69.
Vantipalli, who also shot a 70 in Monday’s second round, tied for 20th place with a 54-hole score of 1-under 212. Eichenlaub, who opened the event with a 2-under 69, tied for 38th position with a 2-over total of 215, while Berry grabbed a share of 56th place at 5-over 218.
Senior John Baldwin (Little Compton, R.I.) and junior Tomas Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) both closed with rounds of 5-over 76 on Tuesday. Baldwin posted a 54-hole total of 11-over 224, while Amaya finished at 21-over 234.
Babson will begin the spring portion of its schedule in March.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• The Beavers’ 54-hole score of 868 with 13 strokes better than last year’s total of 29-over 881 when they tied for 11th place at the Golfweek October Classic.
• Babson’s score of 868 is also its lowest in a 54-hole event since finishing at 870 at the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate back in April 2022.
• The Beavers finished the fall portion of their schedule with a 294.7 team scoring average.
• The Golfweek October Classic featured 18 nationally-ranked programs.
