LEXINGTON, Ky. — Vanderbilt football defensive end Miles Capers was taken off the field on a stretcher with an injury during the second quarter of the Commodores’ game Saturday night.
A Kentucky offensive player made a block on Capers on a rushing play that resulted in him going down on the field. The game was tied, 7-7, with 10:19 left in the second quarter at the time. There was a long stoppage of play while Capers was tended to on the field after the hit.
Capers recorded three tackles in the game before getting injured. He is in his fourth year with the program but took a four-game redshirt as a freshman in 2021 and then missed the 2022 season with a torn ACL suffered during the preseason.
The team gathered around Capers at midfield as he was taken off.
ESPN reported that Capers took a hit to the head. He was taken by ambulance to UK Hospital.
Vanderbilt is already shorthanded with Langston Patterson and Zaylin Wood, two other defensive starters, out with injury.
In total Capers has recorded 25 tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks this season. He was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week after a win over Alabama when he forced a fumble from Jalen Milroe.
