USC men’s basketball suffers crushing home loss to Minnesota
USC loss to Minnesota is a huge blow
Entering Saturday’s matchup with Minnesota at Galen Center, USC men’s basketball sat squarely on the edge of the NCAA Tournament bubble. Hence, the Trojans were desperately in need of a victory over the Gopher to stay in contention for a tournament bid.
For much of the afternoon, it looked as though USC was going to get just that. However, the Trojans collapsed late, blowing a 14-point lead to suffer a brutal home loss to a subpar Minnesota team.
The ending was particularly brutal for USC. The Trojans had the ball down by one in the final seconds with a chance to win the game. An inadvertent whistle stopped play, and the Trojans subsequently turned the ball over on the inbounds pass, all but ending the game.
With the loss, USC now drops to 14-11 overall and 6-8 in Big Ten play. The Trojans are now on the wrong side of the NCAA Tournament bubble, and face a major uphill climb if they want to reach March Madness.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier, either. Up next, USC will travel across the country for road games against No. 25 Maryland and Rutgers.
