Eric Musselman‘s first non-conference slate as USC men’s basketball coach has been finalized, the school announced Monday.
The Trojans will play 11 non-conference games starting with a home matchup against UT Chattanooga on Nov. 4.
USC’s non-conference schedule features a potential seven of 11 contests against teams that finished over .500 last season, including five games with teams that won more than 20 games last year. Four of USC’s potential opponents — Grambling, Saint Mary’s College, New Mexico, and Montana State — won their respective conference tournaments.
“We’re going to put a team on the floor that everyone is extremely proud of,” Musselman said in April when he was hired away from Arkansas. “We’ll play with passion. We’ll play with great energy, great enthusiasm and our team will play with great effort as well.”
Since being hired, Musselman has completely retooled the USC roster. The Trojan staff added 11 transfers and two true freshmen this offseason. Only big man Harrison Hornery returns to the team from last year’s group.
Musselman has a .704 career winning percentage, but his Arkansas team struggled last season going 16-17.
“I don’t want to do what I did last year,” Musselman said in June after a USC practice. “But I want to do what we did in other years, which is create a team that cosmetically, people are like, ‘I want to go watch that team play.’ And then, a team that opposing teams respect for how hard they play.”
