It’s bad enough getting shot down by your crush privately, but having the US Open blast it on Twitter for everyone to see must be a whole other ball game (pun intended).
The tennis tournament has been taking place in New York over the past few weeks, starting with preliminary rounds on August 19 and beginning with the actual tournament on August 26.
And while most people will be tuning in to the US Open to watch tennis legends make history, others — like myself — are really here to see the hilarious stuff go down on the sidelines.
And apparently, the US Open’s Twitter account is on the same beat.
Posting a five-second video of what can only be described as cinematic perfection, the US Open took to Twitter to share an awkward interaction that happened between a man and a woman during Frances Tiafoe and Aleksandar Kovacevic’s match.
In the short clip, the unnamed gentleman returns to his seat with two drinks in hand, ready to offer one to the woman sitting beside him. But in a surprise twist of fate, a second suitor enters the chat and offers a drink to the woman that she accepts instead.

What follows is golden. There’s a brief pause. A sheer look of shock. An awkward fiddling of the hair. In a mere five seconds, so much yet so little is told about these two people. And as the US Open succinctly captioned the video: “This is cinema.”
It’s unclear if these two folks actually knew each other and if they were on a date. They both had rings on their engagement fingers so do with that observation as you will. But that hasn’t stopped the video from going viral on Twitter with 5.8 million views (at the time of writing) and over 40,000 likes.
“If you look closely you can actually pinpoint the exact moment his heart breaks in two,” one user wrote.
“To whoever’s running this account: you deserve a raise and a bonus,” said another.

One user wrote a monologue asking all the right questions saying, “This physically hurt me. I need to know information NOW. Who is that other man? Who is the woman? Which man is she with? Why was the sweet man under the impression he was the one getting her a drink? Why did the other man get her one? What’s their connection?
“Are all three of them connected? Are they in attendance together? How much do those drinks cost? Does the woman have a favorite drink at The Open? Is this their first time attending? Where are they from? HELP ME PLEASE.”
And as another user poignantly put it, “There is no way this is not a Seinfeld scene.”
