Noah Lyles and Lewis Hamilton graced the Arthur Ashe Stadium during the US Open 2024 women’s singles final on Saturday, September 7 between Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula. The duo watched the jaw-dropping clash from the stands and were also seen having a conversation with each other.
Lyles had a memorable campaign in the Paris Olympics where he won two medals for the United States. He bagged gold in the men’s 100-metre and bronze in the 200-metre event. In the final of the 100-metre event, he finished on top with a timing of 9.79, his personal best, after edging out Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson by 0.005 seconds.
US Open 2024 Women’s Singles Final Highlights
In the 200-metre event, Lyles clocked 19.70 seconds and finished third after Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo and USA’s Kenneth Bednarek. Hamilton, on the other hand, is one of the most successful drivers on the Formula One circuit. He has won seven Formula One World Championships and holds numerous records, including the most career F1 race victories.
Sabalenka won the women’s singles title after beating Pegula 7-5, 7-5. The Belarusian fought hard for an hour and 53 minutes before finishing on the winning side on Centre Court. The 26-year-old also got her hands on her third Grand Slam title and her second this year after the Australian Open where she defeated Qinwen Zheng in the final.
Sabalenka did not have it easy against Pegula, who threatened to make a comeback on numerous instances. In the second set, she lost five games in a row, but made a turnaround to come up trumps.
Sabalenka dropped her serve four times in the match, but converted six out of the 15 break point chances that she got. That she made 40 winners, 23 more than Pegula, ended up deciding the fate of the match.
