Four points later and Coco Gauff’s dream of defending her U.S. Open title is still alive!
She had to come from behind to beat No. 26 seed Elina Svitolina (3-6, 6-3, 6-3) in the third round and will face either Emma Navarro (13) or Marta Kostyuk (19) in the last 16.
Gauff improved after a first set in which she was thoroughly dominated to ultimately ease past the Ukrainian who, towards the end of the match, seemed to be struggling with an injury of some description.
Despite that wobble when serving for the match, it was a really strong performance in the second and third sets from the 20-year-old who — all of a sudden — looks a real threat to the title again in New York.
Work to do with her first serve, though.
