Memphis football is headed to a ranked vs. ranked matchup on Thanksgiving Day in New Orleans.
The Tigers (9-2, 5-2 AAC) were ranked No. 23 in Sunday’s US LBM Coaches Poll after a bye week. Memphis will face No. 18 Tulane (9-2, 7-0) on Thursday. The Green Wave were also on a bye week.
Memphis moved up in the poll because Colorado — which was ranked higher last week — fell out of the rankings after losing to Kansas. A win on Thursday would likely keep the Tigers in the poll throughout bowl season. Memphis did not make it to the AAC title game but will have an opportunity to get a 10th or 11th win in a bowl game.
Memphis was ranked No. 24 in the coaches poll last week.
The Tigers received 46 votes and were the second team out of the AP Poll, which put them at essentially No. 27. Memphis has not been ranked in either the AP Poll or the College Football Playoff rankings this season.
The Green Wave will face Army in the AAC title game on Dec. 6.
