KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Hundreds of IRS workers in Kansas City could be let go Wednesday as the Trump administration continues its mass firings of federal workers.
Tuesday night, the union that represents those workers is putting all probationary employees on notice, telling them they could be terminated as soon as Wednesday.
The National Treasury Employees Union said all probationary employees could lose their jobs. That could be everyone who’s worked there for less than a year or two.
All employees were told to print off several forms and keep them for their records, including their last three pay stubs. A few weeks ago, the union encouraged employees not to take a buyout being offered by the Trump administration that would have paid them eight months’ salary to leave their jobs.
KCTV reached out to City Hall for comment. A city spokesperson said Mayor Quinton Lucas has not received official information about any proposed layoffs but will “advocate actively with our federal delegation to protect the positions of affected employees.”
Lucas noted Republican Senator Kit Bond helped bring many of those jobs to Kansas City.
