According to multiple sources, former UNC football defensive tackle Travis Shaw will finish out his college career with the Texas Longhorns.
Shaw, who signed with UNC as part of the 2022 recruiting class as a five-star prospect, was ranked as the No. 20 player nationally and No. 6 for defensive lineman. Shaw has one year of eligibility remaining to work with.
Shaw, who stands at 6-foot-5, 330 pounds, held 28 offers out of high school, including Georgia, Penn State, and Ohio State coming out of Grimsley High School (Greensboro, N.C).
It should come as no surprise Shaw entered the transfer portal after Mack Brown was fired. When committing to North Carolina, Shaw told 247sports:
“When I got hurt, every school knew I got hurt, but [UNC} were the only ones to check up with me on the day of my surgery. That right there set them up apart. It was basically just the love they showed. They’ve never changed up since Day One.”
While he hasn’t necessarily lived up to expectations, Shaw will look to put together a career year for the Longhorns in 2025. Who knows, maybe the Texas coaching staff can help him reach his potential before his college career comes to a close, potentially opening up opportunities to pursue a professional career down the road.
