HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – UConn women’s basketball are kicking off their season Thursday night against the Boston University Terriers at the XL Center in Hartford.
The Huskies had an exhibition game on Saturday against Fort Hayes State, which allowed them to showcase the immense talent they possess.
They are loaded, with rising sophomore Ashlyn Shade and highly regarded prospect Sarah Strong being some of the highlights.
Geno Auriemma had high praise for Strong, saying that she is a one of a kind player.
Don’t forget about former player of the year Paige Bueckers as well.
Azzi Fudd and Jana El Alfy are also going to hopefully provide a big part to any success the team has this season.
Auriemma knows what to expect in November and what it might look like coming out the other side.
As for the men, they opened their season Wednesday night with a dominant 92-56 win over Sacred Heart.
The pre game celebrations were the highlight of the evening, with the national championship trophy on display, the new championship banner being revealed, and more.
The men are seeking their third title in a row, while the women are looking for their first championship since 2016.
Both teams have triumphed on the same year twice before.
