2025 storylines to watch as women’s college basketball heats up
UCLA is the only undefeated team, but USC and JuJu Watkins loom in the new-look Big Ten. The SEC is still strong, while Notre Dame and TCU also look like contenders for the Final Four.
Two of the mightiest programs in women’s college basketball meet Sunday, with the No. 4 South Carolina Gamecocks hosting the No. 7 UConn Huskies.
UConn (23-3) has bounced back from an 80-76 loss to Tennessee earlier this month with blowout wins over Providence and St. John’s. Guard Azzi Fudd scored a combined 51 points in those two victories, while Paige Bueckers was a force on both sides of the ball.
South Carolina (23-2) is a bit closer to a rare defeat, dropping a 66-62 slugfest against Texas a week ago. Since then, the Gamecocks rolled to a 38-point win over Florida, but UConn figures to be a more daunting test. Forwards Joyce Edwards and Chloe Kitts have been forces inside, while star guards Te-Hina Paopao and MiLaysia Fulwiley have lead one of the deepest teams in the country.
