Yorktown High School graduates John Pius and Grant Wilson had impactful college football seasons for different Division I teams during the fall.
Both were standout all-region players during their time playing for Yorktown.
Wilson was a redshirt junior quarterback for the Old Dominion University squad this fall. Pius was a redshirt senior outside linebacker for the Wisconsin University team.
Wilson’s season was cut short by injuries. He started three games, completing 46 of 86 passes for 507 yards and four touchdowns.
The team captain was 22 of 38 for 197 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in the season opener against South Carolina, and he rushed for a 36-yard touchdown.
Against East Carolina, Wilson was 20 of 34 for 192 yards and a touchdown.
Wilson started 11 games and played in 12 for Old Dominion in 2023, throwing for 2,149 yards and 17 touchdowns. He ran for 289 yards and four TDs.
Following this past season, Wilson made the decision to transfer to Indiana University to play football next fall. He will have one season of college eligibility remaining.
Wilson was a member of the Fordham University team, playing little, before transferring to Old Dominion.
The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Pius played in 12 games for Wisconsin. He had 21 tackles, including 2.5 sacks. One of those was a strip sack when he caused a fumble.
Pius made four tackles, including a sack, during a Nov. 16 game against No. 1 ranked Oregon.
Pius played multiple seasons for the College of William and Mary football team, where he was a standout on defense, before transferring to Wisconsin for the 2024 campaign.
Pius made 53 tackles, 16 for losses, including 9.5 sacks, in 2023 for William and Mary.
Pius is hoping to get a chance to play in the NFL.
