Hyderabad: Two women from the city who went to work in Qatar have complained to their families that they were being physically tortured and made to work without any rest at their employers’ home.
Their families have appealed to the Indian embassy in Doha for their rescue and return to India. In a letter to the embassy, Mohammed Munawer Uddin, the husband of one of the women, stated that both women were not provided proper living space either.
The two women, who are cousins, went to Doha on Nov 7 with a promised monthly salary of 1,200 Qatari riyals (27,000) and six-hour workdays by an agent in Hyderabad. Upon arrival, they were handed over to an Arab by another agent.
“They are being tortured badly, made to work for at least 15 hours, and not given proper living space or rest. They are also being beaten by the women in the household,” Munawer Uddin wrote. He urged the embassy to rescue them and provided contact details for the women and the local agent who sent them to Qatar.
MBT leader and social worker Amjed Ullah Khan tweeted to the MEA, stating the women were trafficked to Doha and called for their rescue. He mentioned that their employers demanded 3 lakh each for their return to India.
