We liked Zion Williamson when he was at Duke for the obvious reason: he was a spectacular talent. It was incredible to watch a guy who was 6-6 and 285 be the fastest guy on the court, the highest jumping guy on the court, not to mention being the smartest guy on the court.
He was just incredible to watch. And he was always happy to promote other guys: he saiid that it was “RJ [Barrett’s] team,” that Tre Jones was “driving the bus,” and during interviews, he always had walk-on Mike Buckmire next to him and let him answer lots of questions. He was the biggest talent on the team and it wasn’t close, but he was always letting other guys shine.
Playing for Mike Krzyzewski was demanding, as Duke fans know, and in this video, the interviewer asks Zion what his best Coach K story is. He tells a story that a lot of Duke players have, of being kicked out of practice by an angry Mike Krzyzewski.
He apologizes preemptively to Coach K in case he didn’t want the story out, but to us, it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal. And as he says, none of the players took it personally. It really seems like a rite of passage during the Krzyzewski era.
