Hard court action is well and truly underway in North America, with both the ATP and WTA Tours heading from Canada down to Cincinnati this week. We’ve looked at all of Tuesday’s matches and come up with the best bets to make today. Here are our betting tips this Tuesday.
Based on the latest tennis odds, here are the bets we’re recommend you jump on today:
Alex Michelson and Tallon Griekspoor square off in a very even encounter in the first round of Cincinnati this Tuesday.
The young American Michelsen has been in sharp form in recent weeks, making the quarter-finals in Mallorca, final of Newport and quarter-finals in Washington. Most recently, Michelsen has fought his way through qualifying, winning two matches already in Cincinnati conditions.
Griekspoor, on the other hand, is ranked higher and more experienced. The big-hitting Dutchman is at his best on hard courts, and will be looking for a strong North American hard court swing.
Bookmakers have this match at 10/11 each way, and we agree – it’s a bit of a coin toss. Pick a winner at your peril, but we say given how evenly matched these two are, there’s a strong chance this one goes the distance.
Another fascinating match on day one of the Cincinnati Open is the all-American clash between Ben Shelton and Reilly Opelka.
Shelton is mercurial but is coming to Cincinnati off the back of a semi-final run in Washington and a second-round exit in Montreal. The 21-year-old skipped the Olympics specifically to focus on his home section of the calendar, so will be focused on a result here in Cincinnati–a happy hunting ground for him in the past.
While Opelka had a promising return to the ATP Tour when he made the semi-finals in Newport last month, the reality is he’s still very fresh in his return from injury. He’s lost two of his last three matches in straight sets, and we say it’ll happen again today against Shelton.
