Hong Kong Harry, who didn’t race or train in 2024, returned Tuesday with a work at Santa Anita for trainer Phil D’Amato.
The 8-year-old gelding by Es Que Love went three furlongs in 36.4 seconds, the fastest of six at the distance.
Hong Kong Harry started his 2023 campaign with losses in three graded stakes, took a four-month break and returned to win the Grade 2 City of Hope. He then was second in the Seabiscuit (G2) before taking a year-plus break.
D’Amato told Daily Racing Form in September that Hong Kong Harry didn’t need surgery, just time off.
Hong Kong Harry was one of 10 graded-stakes winners with published works Tuesday.
Hong Kong Harry (Es Que Love), a three-time Grade 2 winner (2023 City of Hope Mile, 2022 Seabiscuit Handicap, 2022 Del Mar Mile), worked three furlongs in 36.4 seconds at Santa Anita on Tuesday morning. It was the fastest of six works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed second in the Seabiscuit Handicap (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 25 for trainer Phil D’Amato.
Balladeer (Distorted Humor), a Grade 2 winner (2023 John Henry Turf Championship), worked four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Tuesday morning. It was the 48th fastest of 56 works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed ninth in the Kentucky Turf Cup (G2) going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 7 for trainer George Papaprodromou.
Barnes (Into Mischief), a Grade 2 winner (2025 San Vicente), worked five furlongs in 58.8 seconds at Santa Anita on Tuesday morning. It was the fastest of 47 works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going five furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he won the San Vicente (G2) going seven furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Jan. 4 for trainer Bob Baffert.
Mi Hermano Ramon (Creative Cause), a Grade 2 winner (2024 Seabiscuit Handicap), worked four furlongs in 48.4 seconds at Santa Anita on Tuesday morning. It was the fourth fastest of 11 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fourth in the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 25 for trainer Mark Glatt.
Stolen Base (Bodemeister), a Grade 2 winner (2022 American Turf), worked four furlongs in 50.6 seconds at Belmont Park on Tuesday morning. It was the 12th fastest of 21 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed 10th in an allowance race going one mile on the turf at Belmont at the Big A on May 17 for trainer Bruce Levine.
