With the Breeders’ Cup nearly upon us, Tuesday was a light workout day for graded-stakes winners.
The six on the tab included Red Route One, winner of the Grade 3 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker on July 6, his most recent start, and the New Orleans Classic (G2) in March.
The 4-year-old son of Gun Runner, trained by Steve Asmussen, has been working fairly regularly since his last start, including each of the last four weeks. Tuesday he breezed five furlongs in 1:03.0 at Churchill Downs, the slowest of six at the distance.
Here are details of Tuesday works by graded-stakes winners.
Maryquitecontrary (First Dude), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Inside Information), worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Tuesday morning. It was the fourth fastest of 13 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Gulfstream Park. In her last start she placed fifth in the Princess Rooney Invitational (G3) going seven furlongs on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Sept. 21 for trainer Eddie Plesa.
Red Route One (Gun Runner), a Grade 2 winner (2024 New Orleans Classic), worked five furlongs in 1:03.0 at Churchill Downs on Tuesday morning. It was the slowest of six works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going five furlongs at Churchill Downs. In his last start he won the Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap (G3) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Prairie Meadows on July 6 for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Temple (Temple City), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Mac Diarmida), worked five furlongs in 1:05.6 at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Tuesday morning. It was the slower of two works at the distance. His previous work was 12 days ago going four furlongs at Horseshoe Indianapolis. In his last start he won a starter allowance race going one mile on the turf at Belterra Park on Aug. 24 for trainer Mike Maker.
Dontlookbackatall (Peace and Justice), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Caress), worked four furlongs in 50.2 seconds at Belmont Park on Tuesday morning. It was the seventh fastest of 19 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed 12th in the Franklin (G2) going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Keeneland on Oct. 13 for trainer Christophe Clement.
Life’s an Audible (Audible), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Sweetest Chant), worked four furlongs in 52.5 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Tuesday morning. It was the 10th fastest of 13 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Gulfstream Park. In her last start she placed second in the Herecomesthebride (G3) going one mile on the turf at Gulfstream Park on March 2 for trainer Todd Pletcher.
West Saratoga (Exaggerator), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Iroquois), worked five furlongs in 1:00.8 at The Thoroughbred Center on Tuesday morning. It was the fastest of five works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Keeneland. In his last start he placed fifth in the Matt Winn (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on June 9 for trainer Larry Demeritte.
