JACKSON, Tenn. — President Trump signs another executive order Wednesday afternoon that will impact women’s sports.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn visited the White House Wednesday to see the signing of an executive order called “Keeping Men out of Women’s Sports.”
Moments before Senator Marsha Blackburn made her way to the White House to watch the signing of the executive order to ban transgender women from women’s sports, she said this:
“I’m so grateful for his support, on all of my efforts to protect women in women’s sports. I’ve got to tell you how wonderful to have a president that will put biology in front of ideology.”
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee also shared a statement on Facebook:
“Thank you, President Donald J. Trump, for protecting women’s sports & restoring common sense in the White House. Maria Lee & I are proud to celebrate the Trump administration’s actions to give women across America the freedom to compete fairly & safely.”
President Trump also spoke at the ceremony.
“The Trump administration we will defend the proud tradition of female athletes. We will not allow men to beat up, injure, and cheat our women and our girls. From now on, women sports will be only for women,” said Trump.
This executive order was signed in lieu of an athlete winning a cycling competition and breaking a record.
“Female athletes have been forced on the frontlines and men claiming to be girls have stolen more than 3,500 victories–that’s a lot. And invaded more than 11,000 competitions designed for women,” said President Trump.
During this time, Trump mentioned another executive order he signed on day one of his second term.
“On day one I made it official and I’m making it official policy of the United States government that there is 2 genders. We have two genders, what might they be? Man and woman, right? Male and female,” said President Trump.
During Wednesday’s ceremony, he spoke to the crowd and shared that this is bringing common sense back to the government.
“So we are restoring sanity and common sense very simply to our government. We’re defending the rights and safety and pride of the American people including our great, great female athletes. What great athletes you are too,” said President Trump.
Around him surrounded hundred of women athletes of all ages. Wednesday is also “National Girls and Women in Sports Day.”
