The NFL handed down fines to two Cincinnati Bengals following their Week 5 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
They fined receiver Ja’Marr Chase was fined $19,697 for a “violent gesture” in the celebration following his touchdown near the end of the second quarter.
Here’s the play in question.
Chase did his trademark “Griddy” celebration after the score, which apparently shows him mimicking guns with his hands. Chase has done the same celebration since entering the league in 2021. Chase was not flagged for the celebration in the game.
The NFL also fined defensive end Trey Hendrickson $16,883 for roughing the passer.
Hendrickson was flagged for the hit during the game, so Baltimore got 15 yards from it. The NFL deemed this play to be worth a fine because they believe Hendrickson let his full body weight fall on Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Both players will likely appeal the fines, looking to get them lowered or removed completely.
