When Kentucky shared the new basketball players’ move-in videos earlier in the summer, fans noticed that many of the new Wildcats had packed their golf clubs. Travis Perry, Kerr Kriisa, and Collin Chandler are three golf enthusiasts, but the entire team has made trips to the course for summer bonding away from basketball.
On Wednesday, a local course hosted the Wildcats for an afternoon round. Perry, who was a standout high school golfer at Lyon County, in addition to his prolific high school basketball career, caught KSR up on how they all played.
“Andrew Carr is pretty good. Kerr is pretty good. Collin is pretty good. I think it was actually the first time Trent played, and he was on my team yesterday. He was pretty solid. Everybody did alright. It was a lot of fun, for sure.
“We love playing golf. Golf is a sport that we all think you can have fun, even if you suck at it, honestly. So, we have good days and bad days out there.”
Kerr Kriisa appreciates golf as an escape.
“I think it’s a good way to kind of get your mind off everything and just go out there, enjoy the weather, mingle with your teammates,” Kriisa told KSR on Thursday. “Golf is just such a humble sport. You hit an amazing drive, and then your next shot is trash. So, it’s a very humbling sport, and I think it’s a good hobby to have for me and for my teammates and it’s been fun.”
Earlier in the summer, Kriisa and Perry played a Sunday afternoon round at Keene Trace before the PGA TOUR’s ISCO Championship. Kriisa, a lefty, broke the head off of his driver on the first tee box.
A humbling sport indeed.
