15 August 2024 – The Qatar Ministry of Interior recently announced a new policy effective 1 September 2024, which restricts residents with unresolved traffic violations from leaving the country through any port, including land, sea, or air. The policy mandates that all traffic fines must be settled via the Metrash2 app, the Ministry of Interior website, traffic departments, or unified service centers before travel is permitted.
In addition, the Ministry has introduced a limited-time offer providing a 50% discount on existing traffic violation fines. This offer is applicable to Qatari citizens, residents, visitors, and GCC citizens, and was in effect from 1 June 2024, until 31 August 2024. The discount applies to violations recorded within a period not exceeding three years.
Deloitte’s view
We advise our clients to ensure all traffic violation fines are settled promptly to avoid potential travel disruptions. The use of digital platforms like the Metrash2 app or the Ministry of Interior website can facilitate this process. The 50% discount offer on traffic violation fines was a beneficial initiative for those who had outstanding fines. Deloitte remains committed to keeping our clients updated on such changes and providing guidance to navigate these new policies effectively.
