WACO, Texas (KWTX) – VanTran Transformers, recently acquired by MGM Transformers, is set to open a second manufacturing facility in Waco, bringing up to 700 jobs.
Under MGM Transformers’ leadership, VanTran Transformers will begin production in their new 430,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Waco at the beginning of 2025. VanTran HR manager, Allison Bulkley, said the company was ready to expand beyond its single facility.
“We’ve basically outgrown this current factory,” Bulkley said.
Bulkley said the expansion comes at a time when transformers are seeing a high demand.
“Our products that we build are very intimately involved in getting power into your home and into various factories, data centers, all that kind of stuff,” Bulkley said. “Everywhere needs power so everywhere there’s a transformer involved.”
The real estate agent hired by VanTran Transformers, Bland Cromwell, said the expansion is a part of a larger trend of businesses moving to Waco.
“A lot of people are continuing to move to Texas and continuing to move to Central Texas,” Cromwell said. “And it’s a great place to end up and run your business which is obvious.”
The project is expected to bring up to 700 jobs to Waco. Waco Chamber of Commerce Vice President, Kris Collins, said the jobs added to Waco’s economy would benefit it’s workforce.
“The ability to retain an existing long-tenured company like VanTran and then to see them have really significant opportunity for growth is a positive for us because it supports existing workers but it also creates new employment opportunities for skilled workers in our marketplace,” Collins said.
Vantran Transformers has been manufacturing transformers in Waco since 1974.
