As a self-professed putter addict, the reinvention of Toulon Golf with their Small Batch releases has been nothing short of amazing to witness as well as write about. However, also being a native Oklahoman and music nerd, the newest Small Batch release has taken it all to another level for me.
This month, we say hello to the “Tulsa”, the latest Small Batch release from Toulon Golf, and cool, is underselling this one massively.
Toulon Golf “Tulsa” Small Batch Putter
Much of my heart sits with Tulsa, Oklahoma already. No, not because I was born there, but rather based upon it being one of the absolute coolest cities in my home state, and well as one of the most history laden. Tulsa is known for a lot of things, Southern Hills hosting more PGA Championships than any other course, the Art Deco architecture which adorns its skyline, being the “capital city” of the “mother road”, Route 66, the heartbreaking history of the Greenwood District, and music.
With this Small Batch release, sound is at the root of things as this prototype turned heads in the best of ways, and that combined with that aforementioned Art Deco history, is why the name Tulsa, stuck. Sure, Tulsa has Cains Ballroom and all which that encompasses. Yes, it is home to both the Woodie Guthrie and Bob Dylan museums. However, the Tulsa Small Batch putter tips its cap to the Church Studio, founded by the “Master of Space and Time” himself, Leon Russell.
Why? Because of the sound. The feedback of the Church Studio was legendary, and according to Toulon Golf, the feedback from this putter was worthy of such a tip of the cap at naming it the Tulsa. The body of this one began its life as an Austin, but through the massaging and alteration of thicknesses, the feedback was changed drastically, bringing feel to another time and space. With a much more deep and plush feedback to the ears and hands, the Tulsa takes the 904L material to another level.
Finished with a brand new H5 hosel, the Tulsa has more toe hang than the traditional H1 used on the Austin. According to Toulon Golf, that makes this putter a fit for golfers who have moderate-to-more rotation in their putting strokes. All graphics on this one are a nod to the Church Studio and Tulsa’s Art Deco history while creating a clean and finely tuned aesthetic finished in Tour Satin Mist. The putter will have a 353g head weight, 60-degree toe-hang, and fine double fly cut Big Tuna milling.
The Details
The Tulsa officially releases today, 9/19/24 in extremely limited numbers and will be available on their website, www.ToulonGolf.com. As has been the case with the other Small Batch releases, the Toulon Tulsa will be priced at a premium $1,800 for the super limited design.
