Ange Postecoglou has eased concerns over Son Heung-min’s fitness after the Tottenham Hotspur captain missed training ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with AZ Alkmaar.
Son made his return from a hamstring injury and scored a goal in Spurs’ 4-1 victory over West Ham United on Saturday but was absent from Wednesday’s training session.
“Sonny was a bit sore after the weekend, he was never going to be involved tomorrow anyway,” Postecoglou explained. “So we are leaving him out tomorrow and see how he is.”
32-year-old Son suffered a hamstring injury during Tottenham’s 3-0 victory over Qarabag in the Europa League on September 26 which forced him to miss their next three games in all competitions, including the 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Son was also not included in South Korea’s squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Iraq and Jorda earlier this month.

Postecoglou, meanwhile, also provided an update on summer signing Wilson Odobert, who could make his return after more than a month out with a hamstring injury.
Odobert, 19, has not featured since Spurs’ victory in the Carabao Cup against Coventry City and the forward is now back in training. However, head coach Postecoglou is being cautious about his match readiness.
“Potentially (he could feature), we have to be careful with him because he has missed a lot and he has only had this week of training,” Postecoglou added. “He will be involved in the squad, but game time will be game dependent.”
Tottenham are aiming to maintain their perfect Europa League record so far with a win against Alkmaar in north London.
