Carson Beck may benefit from playing another season at Georgia, according to NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay.
However, Beck announced that he was declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft ahead of Georgia’s matchup against Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.
“Carson Beck made a bad decision to leave early,” McShay said during a recent episode of ‘The McShay Show.’ “I texted a bunch of guys in the league, GMs, former GMs, scouts. One Scout wrote back to me, one word answer — ‘foolish.’ I thought he got better late in the season, as I said, but I don’t think he’s there yet. Played great in certain moments. I thought he played better late in the season, but he never, this year played to the level that many of us expected him to play to.
“I just don’t know that he’s ready.”
Interceptions had been a major concern for Beck down the stretch during the regular season. From Oct. 12 through Nov. 9, Beck threw nine interceptions across four games. Since then, however, he hasn’t turned the ball over a single time. Instead, he threw 11 touchdown passes across the final three games of the regular season to help push his Bulldogs into the SEC Championship game.
Of course, he was injured on the final play of the first half in that game. He has since been forced to undergo season-ending surgery before the CFP quarterfinal, effectively ending his college career following his announcement to turn pro.
“Why wouldn’t you take this time rehab in the off season, come back with a better supporting cast?” McShay questioned. “They’ve got a lot of young wide receivers. I know they’ve recruited well at wide receiver, from what I can tell, their offensive line will be better. They’ll be more balanced.”
Regardless, the decision for Beck to move on from Athens is set in stone, and he’ll focus himself on rehab and trying to get back in time to raise his NFL Draft stock before April’s annual event.
In the meantime, he’ll be cheering on his Bulldogs on New Year’s Day when they take on the Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl. With sophomore quarterback Gunner Stockton set to lead the Georgia offense, opening kickoff is set for 8:45 p.m. ET and will air live on ESPN.
