A 25-year-old who was a favorite to start on the Tennessee Titans offensive line has abruptly retired.
The Titans placed Saahdiq Charles on the team’s Reserve/Retired list on Wednesday, two days after he appeared as the starter at right guard on the team’s depth chart.
He had worked with the first team during the early days of training camp, but Charles had also missed a number of practices recently for what coach Brian Callahan called personal reasons.
Dillon Radunz and LaChavious Simmons were the other players listed at his position.
Charles signed with the Titans earlier this offseason after he spent the past four seasons with the Washington Commanders.
A fourth-round pick of Washington in the 2020 NFL Draft, Charles has played in 35 games, with 18 starts, over the past four seasons.
He was the starting left tackle on LSU’s 2019 national championship team that featured stars Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson, among others.
