Amid all of the NBA trade deadline distractions, the Minnesota Timberwolves decided to stick with the team they have for the rest of the season.
As of late, the team has been playing as a cohesive unit. Anthony Edwards has been playing remarkable basketball for the past month and it’s been contagious for the team.
In Thursday night’s 127-114 win against the Houston Rockets, Edwards made history. He became the youngest player in NBA history to make 1,000 three-pointers. In Edwards-like fashion his response to historic stat after the game was: “I got a [expletive] burner. Simple as that.”
According to ClutchPoints, Edwards passed Devin Booker to set this record. Booker set the record at the age of 24 years and 134 days old. Meanwhile, Edwards accomplished it at the age of 23 years and 100 days old. In addition to this, he also set the Wolves franchise record for most 40-point games (14). This record surpasses his former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns.
Due to his recent play, Edwards has now climbed into the top five in the league in scoring. In four of the last five games, he has scored 30-plus points. His last two games, he’s put over 40 points. A more glaring stat to notice, is he has also attempted 10 or more threes in four of his last six games, while shooting an impressive percentage (over 40%).
Edwards’ impressive play over the past few weeks has had a positive effect on the rest of the team. They have a 7-3 record in the past 10 games and are now the 6th seed in the West. Just a month ago, this team was scratching and clawing their way into a playoff spot.
Another night of records being broken by Edwards. The Wolves are playing great basketball right now. The second half of the season will be important as they get Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo back on the floor.
