As we inch closer to the NBA trade deadline, the Minnesota Timberwolves should have one thing on their agenda.
Make a decision on struggling forward Julius Randle.
Randle was brought to Minnesota in the trade sending Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks. Meanwhile, it appears that Donte DiVincenzo is finally fitting in with his new role with the team. While that is positive news, Randle has yet to find any consistency with the team.
Bleacher Report suggested what the Timberwolves should prioritize at February’s trade deadline.
“There’s been little buzz that Minnesota is shopping Randle, who may have no choice but to opt into his $30.9 million contract next season. Still, some around the league think the Timberwolves would be open to a change. Randle has been productive offensively, but the team isn’t as strong as it was a year ago, and Minnesota may prefer investing in Reid instead,” Pincus wrote.
The problem that the Wolves may run into is his trade value has slightly decreased. They will need to decide whether to take the loss from the trade and trade him away, or allow coach Chris Finch will have to shuffle around the lineup until Randle feels comfortable. He is still a talented player, he may just need more time. It is up to Minnesota to decide whether or not he deserves more time to work through the chemistry woes.
Pincus also believes that if the team does decide to move Randle, landing a replacement point guard for the aging Mike Conley is a must. Although they just drafted Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon Jr., the Wolves are ready to win now. After reaching the Western Conference Finals last season, it is do or die time for them to take the next step.
