Fierceness and Seize the Grey worked Thursday morning as they prepare for expected starts in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Fierceness, last year’s juvenile champion and winner of the Grade 1 Travers last out, worked five furlongs in 1:02.5 at Saratoga, third fastest at the track and distance.
Seize the Grey, the Preakness winner who scored last out in the Pennsylvania Derby (G1), fired a bullet at Churchill Downs, covering five furlongs in 59.0 seconds.
Fierceness and Seize the Grey led 12 graded-stakes winners with published works on Thursday.
Fierceness (City of Light), a three-time Grade 1 winner (2024 Travers, 2024 Curlin Florida Derby, 2023 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile), worked five furlongs in 1:02.5 at Saratoga on Thursday morning. It was the third fastest of eight works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start he won the Travers (G1) going 1 1/4 miles on the main track at Saratoga on Aug. 24 for trainer Todd Pletcher.
Seize the Grey (Arrogate), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2024 Pennsylvania Derby, 2024 Preakness), worked five furlongs in 59.0 seconds at Churchill Downs on Thursday morning. It was the fastest of 15 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Parx Racing on Sept. 21 for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
Locked (Gun Runner), a Grade 1 winner (2023 Breeders’ Futurity), worked five furlongs in 1:01.2 at Saratoga on Thursday morning. It was the fastest of eight works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going five furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start he placed third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on Nov. 3 for trainer Todd Pletcher.
Mullikin (Violence), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Forego), worked four furlongs in 48.8 seconds at Keeneland on Thursday morning. It was the 22nd fastest of 72 works at the distance.
