Johannes worked five furlongs in 59.2 seconds at Santa Anita on Thursday morning ahead of an expected start in the Grade 2 San Gabriel next Thursday.
The 4-year-old Nyquist colt trained by Tim Yakteen won his first four starts of the year, all in graded stakes, before finishing second in the Breeders’ Cup Mile.
Bentorato, second last out in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, also worked Thursday at Santa Anita, going five furlongs in a bullet 58.6 seconds.
Johannes was one of 11 graded-stakes winners with published works Thursday.
Didia (Orpen), a Grade 1 winner (2024 New York), worked four furlongs in 50.4 seconds at Keeneland on Thursday morning. It was the slowest of four works at the distance.
