In the NBA, only two cities have more than one team. Los Angeles hosts both the Lakers and Clippers, and New York boasts both the Knicks and Nets. No matter how much success the Clippers and Nets have, they are always seen as the “little brother” in the crosstown rivalries.
The Knicks haven’t won the NBA Finals since 1973, but the Nets haven’t won a ring since their time in the ABA. The Lakers have 17 banners, and the Clippers have never even made the Finals, so neither rivalry is particularly heated.
However, this season, the Clippers are 1.5 games ahead of the Lakers in the standings and beat them on Sunday, 116-102.
Three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams played three and a half seasons with the Clippers and a season and a half with the Lakers, and recently offered his preference as a player.
On FanDuel’s “Run It Back” show, veteran NBA analyst Michelle Beadle asked her co-hosts if they would rather play for the Lakers or Clippers.
“It’s Lakers all day long,” said Chandler Parson.
“What I will tell you, the experiences are different,” argued Williams, who played for both teams. “My personality, I enjoy playing for the Clippers a lot more. I loved playing for the Lakers, but my personal experience was better with the Clippers.”
Parsons never played for either Los Angeles team, so his opinion carries a bit less weight. From a player perspective, it makes sense, as Steve Ballmer has made sure the Clippers are run like a marquee organization since buying the team in 2014.
