If you’re a Memphis football fan you may find yourself rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59.
The Tigers have three former players — Bryce Huff, Kenneth Gainwell and Jake Elliott — who will suit up for the Eagles against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Feb. 9 in New Orleans.
The Eagles, the No. 2 seed in the NFC, beat the Washington Commanders on Sunday to reach their second Super Bowl in three years. The Chiefs have won the past two Super Bowls and defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship.
Elliott played for the Tigers from 2013-16 and has been one of the top kickers in the NFL since he joined the Eagles out of Memphis in 2017. He’s 28-of-36 on field goals this season and is 6-of-7 in postseason.
He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2021.
The Eagles took Gainwell with a fifth-round pick in 2021 after rushing for 1,459 yards as a redshirt freshman and then opted out of the 2020 season. He’s rushed for 1,185 yards during his four-year NFL career (all with Philadelphia) and is a backup to star running back Saquon Barkley.
Gainwell has rushed for 290 yards and a touchdown this season. He also has 16 receptions for 116 yards.
Huff was an undrafted free agent in 2020 who signed with the New York Jets. He had a breakout year in 2023 and signed with the Eagles before the start of the 2024 season.
He dealt with a wrist injury and missed time this season. He’s made 13 tackles in 2024.
The game will be broadcast on Fox. Fans can also stream the game with FUBO TV.
