Tiger Woods, Jupiter Links talk about ’embarrassing’ TGL wedge shot
“That was one of the most embarrassing things to ever happen. I can’t believe that just happened.”
Before he even hit the shot, Jupiter Links teammates Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim were questioning Tiger Woods‘ club choice.
During the singles portion of Tuesday night’s TGL match between Jupiter Links and New York Golf Club, Woods was hitting his second shot on a par-4. He asked Kisner and Kim for a yardage, and they responded 99. Woods took it literally, but he needed to add a 1 in front of it.
“He ain’t got enough club,” Kisner said right before Woods hit the shot. “What is he doing?
“He’s got a wedge,” Kisner remarked, as Woods hit a perfect wedge shot that resulted in a perfect layup.
“What are you doing?” Kim said while uncontrollable laughing. “It’s 199,” Kisner added.
“You said 99 yards,” Tiger said with a confused look on his face. “You said 99.”
As Woods walked back to his team’s bench area, Kisner and Kim were folded over in laughter. They even jokingly asked, “Can we have a mulligan?”
ESPN’s Marty Smith then came over and asked Woods, “What the hell just happened?”
“I grabbed my 56, and I hit it 100 yards,” Tiger responded.
The misunderstanding was a microcosm of the night for Jupiter Links, which lost 10-3 to New York Golf Club. But the moment was also the highlight of the match.
“That was one of the most embarrassing things to ever happen,” Woods said after the match. “I can’t believe that just happened.”
