In a residential area between two houses, hidden by trees and big shrubs, is a secluded tennis court where members of the Hilltop Tennis Club have played for a century. This tennis club is one of the few places in Fanwood where members can play on a softer, Har-Tru (clay) surface.

The tennis club recently hosted an open house to celebrate its 100th anniversary. The club was also given a proclamation from Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr marking its centenary. The United States Tennis Association sent teaching pros, who gave some quick lessons at the court, as part of the celebration.

“In those few minutes there were tips on how to hold your racket better, how to do a backhand hit a little differently, and I definitely learned some things from those guys in the time that I spent with them” said Susan Rash, 56, a member of the club.
